According to the U.S. Census Bureau, nearly 8,000 veterans call Bastrop County home. Learn more about the following events happening in town this Veterans Day weekend to honor those who have served.

“One of the beautiful things about the city of Bastrop and Bastrop County in general is the welcoming nature that the city has towards veterans,” Mayor Lyle Nelson said. “I'm a veteran, so it just does my heart good to see the events that occur that support veterans.”

17th annual car show

The "Heroes & Hot Rods" Veterans Day Cruise In and Car Show, hosted by the Bastrop Area Cruisers, will showcase 400 classic cars. The event kicks off at 5 p.m. Nov. 10 with a cruise-in of classic cars along historic downtown Bastrop.

Attendees are welcome to take photos of classic cars. The car show will take place on Saturday as well as a silent auction.Veterans ceremony at the Bastrop County Courthouse


Bastrop veterans and their families will be present for the annual Veterans Day ceremony. The ceremony will be preceded by a veterans march through downtown Bastrop at 10:30 a.m. ending at the Bastrop County Courthouse. Col. Richard Hutchins will be the guest speaker at the ceremony.

19th annual Red White and Blue Veterans dinner

Although the event is sold out, donated tickets are available for veterans, surviving spouses and their caretakers. Donated tickets are given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Profits from the event support the Bastrop County Veteran Service Organizations, Bastrop and Elgin high school NJROTCs, the Bastrop County Veteran Honor Guard, and the Bastrop Memorial Day and Veterans Day Programs.
