A new beer is available on tap at Neighbor’s Kitchen and Yard: the Kōkua.

The beer is brewed at The Iron Bridge Icehouse and follows Maui Brewing Co.'s recipe. All proceeds from the beer’s sale will go to wildfire relief efforts in Maui as part of the Kōkua Project.

The details

“Kōkua,” a Hawaiian word meaning "help" or "aid," is the name of the project, with over 700 breweries participating to provide aid to those affected by the August wildfires that impacted the island of Maui.

“We are a rounding error in the federal aid globally that they are receiving [in Maui], but it's more that we have your back,” said Tom Dickey, owner of Iron Bridge Icehouse and Neighbor’s Kitchen and Yard. “We are collectively about community.”

Of the 37 participating breweries in Texas, Neighbor's Kitchen and Yard is the only brewery serving the beer in Bastrop County. The Iron Bridge Icehouse has engaged in previous projects sending relief aid in response to the wildfires in Australia.

“Given Bastrop’s history with wildfires ... it’s near and dear to everybody’s heart,” Dickey said.

About the Kōkua

The Kōkua is a saison beer with hints of pineapple. Like all of The Iron Bridge Icehouse beers, the Kōkua is brewed with rainwater.

In addition to beer, Neighbor's Kitchen and Yard serves pizza and their comeback dip at 601 Chestnut St., Bldg. C, Bastrop. Located beside Bastrop's historic bridge, the restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating along the Colorado River.
