Special exhibition “Behind the Scenes at the Museum” is set to open at The Bastrop Museum and Visitor Center on Jan. 4. The interactive exhibit will show visitors the history of museums and the inner workings behind them.

The exhibition will be free and open to the public until March 30.

The exhibit will include artifacts from the 18th to 20th centuries and follow the evolution of museums and collecting. Artifact care, conservation and documentation will also be a part of the special exhibit.

“While exhibits may not come alive at night like in the movies, the magic of a museum lies in the education and inspiration achieved through story-telling and the collection of artifacts,” Heather Bloom, manager of Museum Collections for the Bastrop County Historical Society, said.
