In celebration of the Bastrop's designation as a “Bird City,” a series of art pieces will be installed along the Bastrop Cultural District gateway at Chestnut Street and SH 95. The project’s initial piece will be funded by a $16,200 Cultural Arts District Project grant.

Approval of the grant is on the agenda for the Dec. 12 City Council meeting.

Bastrop was declared a “Bird City Texas Certified Community” by Texas Parks and Wildlife for the community’s dedication to create and improve bird habitats. Today 277 different species of birds can be spotted in Bastrop County.

Also of note

The Bastrop Cultural Arts Commission will be awarded an $8,000 grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts at the Dec. 12 City Council meeting. The money will be allocated to the cleaning of the Bastrop city bronze statues, art education materials and new cultural projects.
