Bastrop to install six speed limit signs along Agnes Street

The city of Bastrop approved the installation of new speed limit signs along Agnes Street.

The details

There will be six speed limit signs—three facing eastbound and three facing westbound—that the Streets and Drainage Department will install, according to city documents.

“These signs are being installed along Agnes Street to promote safety, consistency and efficient traffic flow for motorists using the corridor,” Bastrop Police Chief Vicky Steffanic said in a staff report.

Each speed limit sign will be marked for 30 mph, according to city documents.

Some background

Agnes Street was extended as part of a multimillion dollar project Bastrop City Council approved in December 2023. It was recently unveiled to the community during a brief ceremony Dec. 29.

The outlook

The Agnes Street extension is a component of the city’s Transportation Master Plan—which also includes the Blakey Lane extension project—that aims to alleviate traffic both north and south of Hwy. 71, according to city documents.

“The plan is to have connectivity all throughout the city,” Bastrop City Manager Sylvia Carrillo-Trevino said. “This is part one, and we’ll keep that [Transportation Master Plan] moving along.”
