Contractors with the Texas Department of Transportation began the work May 12 at the intersection of Hwy. 304 and Edward Burleson Road, progressing westbound.
Bastrop Public Information Officer Colin Guerra said closures will take place Sundays through Thursdays, and are expected to continue through the end of June, weather permitting.

Throughout construction, TxDOT crews will close one lane at a time, allowing traffic to continue through the remaining open lane.
The project spans the main lanes of SH 71 from the Travis County line to FM 20.
