Bastrop city officials are working on two major projects to improve citywide transportation options to serve a growing population.

The details
The roadway will be expanded from two lanes to four between Home Depot Way and Sterling Drive, providing access from Home Depot to Walmart without requiring drivers to use Hwy. 71.
Why it matters
City officials said they aim to reduce traffic congestion and improve access to nearby businesses, health care facilities and residences.
Infrastructure upgrades such as water, wastewater and storm sewer lines will also be installed along the new roadway.

City explores enhanced public transit
Bastrop residents may soon have more flexible transportation options as the city explores a partnership with Capital Area Rural Transportation System and Uber.
What’s happening
During a Feb. 25 meeting, City Manager Sylvia Carrillo-Trevino shared that she’s working with CARTS to create a proof of concept involving Uber ridesharing.
If approved, the city could launch a voucher program through Uber for Business, subsidizing a set number of rides for residents.
