The Texas Department of Transportation is gearing up to begin construction on the intersection of FM 1209 and FM 969 in Bastrop County.

The details

The project will straighten FM 1209 to create a ‘T’ intersection with FM 969, said Bradley Wheelis, Southwest communications director for TxDOT.

On FM 969, one lane will be closed during the day, and there will be one-lane and two-way traffic control as they widen each side. The roadway will be opened back up to two lanes at the end of the day. FM 1209 will not have any lane closures, TxDOT Public Information Officer Jeff Barker said.

A closer look

Barker said drivers should slow down and pay attention to road crews and flaggers at the intersection while road construction is being completed.

Construction is scheduled to start the week of July 29 and is expected to be complete in summer 2025. Wheelis said the project is anticipated to cost $2 million.
