Elgin City Council is seeking resident feedback in regards to its proposed capital improvement plan, budget and tax rate for fiscal year 2025-26.

There will be public hearings at two upcoming Elgin City Council meetings:
  • 6:30 p.m. Sept. 2, 404 N. Main St., Elgin
  • 6:30 p.m. Sept. 16, 404 N. Main St., Elgin
The details

Texas state law requires Elgin City Council to hold these public hearings prior to adoption.

“The hearings provide residents the opportunity to review, comment and ask questions regarding the city’s planned expenditures, capital projects and tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year,” Stacey Osborne, the acting public information officer for the city of Elgin, said in a news release. “The capital improvement plan and proposed city budget are currently available on the city’s website, and the new tax rate will be posted five business days prior to the hearings.”

Residents who wish to speak in person will not need to fill out a public comment form, according to officials.

“Speaker comments will be limited to three minutes, and no formal action will be taken by the city council during the hearings,” Osborne said. “Residents are asked to refrain from any personal attacks or derogatory comments directed at any council member, staff member, other individual or group.”

Although emailed comments will be accepted and distributed to each Elgin City Council member, they will not be read out loud during the public hearings, according to officials.
