Pines and Prairies Land Trust seeks funding from Bastrop

The Pines and Prairies Land Trust has a mission to protect open space through conservation, stewardship and community engagement.

Laurie Mason, the outreach manager with Pines and Prairies Land Trust, asked Bastrop City Council in early July for continued funding toward their efforts with the Colorado River Refuge—a 65-acre nature preserve established in 2004 in the Tahitian Village neighborhood.

Bastrop County awarded $2 million to assist marginalized students

St. David’s Foundation awarded Bastrop County a $2 million grant that will finance two years of the Create A Job, Save A Job program as part of the Bastrop County Healthcare Workforce Collaborative.

This new initiative will create pathways for students in historically marginalized communities to enter high-demand, financially sustainable health care careers by helping them earn certifications and credentials, according to county documents.

Bastrop officials aim to preserve South End

Work is progressing on a Bastrop African American Cultural District.

The first of several town hall meetings to gauge public interest was held July 9 at Bastrop City Hall. The event featured local elders, families and community leaders, including Bastrop Mayor Ishmael Harris and Place 1 council member Perry Lowe.
