The details
Bastrop Public Information Officer Colin Guerra told Community Impact the warming shelter will be inside the church at 1028 Main St., Bastrop. It will be open nightly from 7 p.m.-7 a.m.
"It is important to note that people are welcome to come at any point during that timeframe, but they cannot come and go and come back during that period," Guerra said.
Guerra added the shelter can take in five pets, and officials plan to keep it open through Friday morning.
What else?
Guerra said officials with the Bastrop Fire Department went door-to-door checking on at-risk residents Jan. 5.
"They did that to make sure everyone had what they needed before the cold weather hit," Guerra said.
Those who would like to be added to the at-risk list, or have a family member added, can contact the Bastrop Fire Department at 512-332-8670 or Bastrop Police Department at 512-332-8600.
One more thing
Pastor Roland Nava of In The Streets Hands Up High Ministries, opened a separate warming shelter, and soup kitchen, at 897 SH 95 N., Bastrop.
In a social media post, Nava said the shelter will be open while temperatures are below 39 degrees.
Nava can be reached at 512-317-7503 for more information.
