Bastrop County officials are urging community members to consider applying for a seat on the newly formed Advisory Board of Health.

Applicants have until Jan. 10 to put their names in the hat.

Lyndsey Schroeder, Bastrop County public information officer, said those on the board will play a vital role in shaping local public health initiatives.

The nine-member board will be comprised of six Bastrop County residents and one resident each from the cities of Bastrop, Elgin and Smithville.


Board members will report to the Bastrop County judge and Commissioners Court as well as the three city councils.

Schroeder said key responsibilities will include:
  • Providing oversight of the Bastrop Public Health Department
  • Ensuring outreach to underserved and marginalized communities
  • Informing county commissioners and municipal governments of emerging and high-profile public health issues
