The Bastrop Police Department received a $2,500 donation to fund a remodel for the department’s victim interview room. The donation was made by Project Beloved—a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for sexual assault survivors—and accepted by the city of Bastrop at the May 14 City Council meeting.

The expected remodel work includes repainting walls and purchasing new furniture to create a more comfortable, calming environment for victims visiting the station.

According to Project Beloved's website, "soft"—visually pleasing and comfortable—interview rooms are used in their remodels to help victims feel physically and emotionally safe.

What they're saying

City of Bastrop Police Chief Vicky Steffanic presented the details of the donation at the May 14 council meeting.

“I am requesting the police department be allowed to accept this donation to further enable our department to advocate for victims of crime, in this case by creating a more comfortable environment,” Steffanic said at the meeting.
