The solid waste and recycling services contract with Waste Connections ends Aug. 31 in the city of Bastrop. In preparation, the city has opened a request for service proposals.

The contract was made over five years ago, City Manager Sylvia Carrillo said.

“Appropriate municipal practice is to go change auditors, change a lot of important big-ticket items to one, ensure [the city] is still being competitive—keeping the taxpayer’s best interest at heart—and making sure the services provided are still what the residents would like,” Carrillo said.

Proposals will be brought to council in July for final approval.

In a 2022 city survey, respondents voiced a desire for other services such additional recycling or composting.
