The background

Founded by Spruce Dickerson in 2012, the nonprofit organization provides shoes for the underserved, as stated on its website.

The nonprofit was first founded as Flip Flop to Nigeria to help collect new flip flops and distribute them in Nigeria to protect recipients’ feet from disease and infection. The organization rebranded to its current name and structure in 2017.

Over the last 12 years, a range of countries have been chosen as donation recipients throughout the years including Nigeria, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the United States of America, the Philippines, Haiti, India, Kenya and Canada.

The details

Approximately 33,855 pairs of flip flops have been donated by the nonprofit organization.

In addition to flip flops, monetary donations are also accepted to help pay for the shipping of the annual donations to their location.

Each year the organization picks one country to focus its efforts on. This year, all donations will go toward Cozumel, Mexico.
