A free community event to celebrate and learn about the history of Smithville's Southside will be held April 19.

The details

The Smithville Southside History Unity event will kick off with a program at Mt. Pilgrim Bastrop Church, and limited lunches will be provided. The event will conclude at Mary A. Brown School down the street.

The event will highlight the Smithville Southside History Project and City Historic Marker Program, city officials said.

Smithville Community Engagement Coordinator Jose Rivera and Alta Yevett Alexander launched the Smithville Southside History Project in January.
