The Smithville Empty Bowl event March 29 will raise money for local organizations working to end hunger.

What to expect

The annual fundraiser allows attendees to try some soup and select a hand-painted bowl.

Event organizers said guests are asked to keep a bowl as a reminder of the empty bowls those fighting food insecurity experience.

What else?

Spokesperson Stephanie Braddock said attendees can bid on silent auction items, which will be on display near the bowls.

“You can stop by to eat your soup outdoors, or pick up anything you want to take with you,” Braddock said.

Some background

Braddock said the Smithville Empty Bowl project began in 2011 as a partnership between the Smithville Food Pantry, Smithville Community Gardens and Lost Pines Artisans’ Alliance.

Since then, additional partners have joined, including the Samella Williams Angels Unaware Ministry and Smithville Community Clinic.

“Each of these organizations provides needed services for the health and welfare of the Smithville community,” Braddock said.
