Some context

Started in 1988 by a National Storytelling Network board member, Tellabrations take place around the world, according to the NSN website.

“Our hope is to call attention to storytelling as an art worth promoting,” according to a statement on the website. “And to help those outside the storytelling community to distinguish storytelling from other, related forms of human expression.”

In their own words

“The Elgin Arts Association has been wanting to bring the spoken word to Elgin,” Thompson said. “This year, it's happening."
