With a new school year underway, enrollment in Liberty Hill ISD is reaching new heights.
More than 11,000 students are enrolled in the district for the first time in LHISD history. While new home construction continues to draw families to the district, enrollment projections indicate growth is slightly slowing. LHISD is now projected to have 18,746 students enrolled within the next 10 years.
“We're continuing to grow, just not at the same pace that we were before,” LHISD Superintendent Travis Motal said Sept. 21.
By the numbers
Compared to the same time last year, an additional 625 students are enrolled within LHISD, according to numbers presented during the district’s Sept. 21 board meeting.
Of the 1,175 homes that began construction over the past year, more than 344 were within the attendance zone for Lariat Trails Elementary School. The campus also saw more new home sales than any other LHISD elementary school with 323. A further 359 lots zoned for Lariat Trails Elementary School have yet to be developed, according to Zonda Demographics.
The same data indicates that Liberty Hill Elementary School has more than 2,000 lots yet to be developed within its attendance boundaries, while Louine Noble Elementary School has nearly 1,700.
Districtwide, there were 622 new home sales closed during the first two quarters of 2026—the fewest in the same timeframe for any year since 2019. With 577 new homes breaking ground, home construction starts are at their lowest level for the same period since 2023.
Looking ahead
Combined, 2,429 new homes were under construction or had closed over the past year, according to the district’s demographer. LHISD ranks third among Austin-area school districts in these metrics, trailing only Georgetown ISD and Hays CISD.
New neighborhoods continue to develop within LHISD boundaries as 28 subdivisions are actively under construction while an additional 13 subdivisions are in planning stages. Nearly 9,500 lots are planned for these 13 future neighborhoods, according to Zonda Demographics data.
Beyond subdivisions, more than 1,300 multifamily rental units are being built across the district, with over a dozen multifamily development sites planned within the district.
