A fundraiser centered around barbecue and live music will benefit Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA, of Bastrop, Fayette, and Lee Counties on Oct. 26.

What’s happening

Julie and Jeff Thomas, owners of a barbecue food truck called Comfort Que, said the Music & Meat Festival is a great opportunity for locals to have fun, eat great food and help a local cause.

The details

The bring-your-own-beer and -lawnchair event will offer barbecue options made by Comfort Que including brisket and pulled pork sandwiches, sausage on a stick and more.

Tickets can be purchased online ahead of time.

The day’s live music schedule is as follows:
  • Noon: Prime Swing, big band swing music
  • 2:30 p.m.: The B Sides, classic rock
  • 5 p.m.: Against the Grain, rock and country
  • 8 p.m.: Seth James, blues
Some context

Former CASA volunteer Julie Thomas said the cause is close to her heart.

“The service that the CASA volunteers provide to the families is critical in providing stability, consistency and a voice for babies and children who need the support,” Julie Thomas said in an email to Community Impact. “They ensure the children are represented and considered in medical, educational, social and familial decisions, and very importantly, in court.“

One more thing

Valerie Lancaster, CASA’s director of development, said the CASA team is grateful and excited for the fundraising event, which will help them continue their mission to help local children in need.

CASA officials will be on-site during the festival with a booth, where those attending can get information or make a donation.
