After two back-to-back hurricanes, Helene and Milton, Bastrop County organizations are pooling together to send recovery supplies to those affected in the Southern U.S.

Texas Firewalkers

The Texas Firewalkers team is focusing efforts on collecting new or gently used items for pets with the upcoming Fill the Trailer event. Monetary donations can also be made online.

McDade ISD FFA

Students from the McDade ISD Future Farmers of America are collecting donations for victims in Spindale, North Carolina. Reagan Wilhelm, McDade ISD FFA advisor, said the FFA will load the donations and head to North Carolina on Oct. 18 to begin distribution.

Heirs of Grace

Pastor Billy Helm of Heirs of Grace Church said a mission team arrived in Morganton, North Carolina on Oct. 10 with two trailers full of donations. Helm said going forward, the church will collect monetary donations. Any money donated to the church and labeled to be used for the effort in North Carolina will be wired directly to the team in North Carolina to purchase items there.What else?


On Oct. 9, Gov. Greg Abbott deployed additional resources to help with emergency management efforts in North Carolina and Florida, according to a news release.

“Cecilia and I ask Texans to join us in prayer for Florida as Hurricane Milton reaches their shores and for those recovering from Hurricane Helene,” Abbott said in the release.
