Bastrop-area residents and athletes will gather at Tiger Stadium in Smithville on Oct. 9 for the annual Fields of Faith event.

In a nutshell

Sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in partnership with Smithville ISD, the evening serves as a time for praise and testimony, said organizer Josh Magden, adding that the event is non-denominational.

Dinner will also be provided, Magden said.

The keynote speaker will be Grace Lyons Turk, a former college softball player who won three consecutive Women's College World Series from 2021-23.

"She will share with us some of her story and the reason for the joy and hope she and her teammates had," Magden said. "Spoiler: it's not raw athletic talent and manifesting a title win."

Some context

Fields of Faith is a nationwide event where "athletes gather at sports environments in their communities to challenge their peers to read the Bible daily and grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and His church," according to the Fields of Faith website.
