Looking for fun things to do in Bastrop this June? Check out these seven upcoming events.

Planting Joy

A handmade, botanical-themed mural composed of numerous 2-foot-by-2-foot fiber squares submitted from around the country will be on display at Railroad Park, with an unveiling celebration the weekend of May 31-June 1. The mural will be available for viewing during normal park hours throughout the month of June.

Family Film Festival

The Film Alley team will offer this year’s Family Film Festival on Tuesdays through Aug. 6, with proceeds benefiting the local Family Crisis Center. In addition to a weekly movie, each showing will offer prizes. The family-friendly movies will range from Peter Rabbit to Hotel Transylvania, The Angry Birds Movie, Smurfs, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and more.

“Moon Over Buffalo” at Bastrop Opera House

Directed by AJ Fuex, the 1950s-era comedy features a couple who are struggling actors in Buffalo, New York. All attendees must have a ticket and no one under the age of 3 is permitted. Other upcoming shows at Bastrop Opera House include “Treasure Island” in August, and “Young Frankenstein” in September.

Jr Fire Rodeo

Kids can learn what it takes to become a firefighter during the Heart of the Pines Volunteer Fire Department’s annual fundraising event. Activities include firefighter-themed games, opportunities for photos with firefighters and their trucks, tours of the station, a silent auction, and more. Barbecue sandwiches, hotdogs and drinks will be available with monetary donations.

Creative Crafting

The Children’s Area at the library will host two themed arts-and-crafts events for elementary school-aged children with the help of their guardians. The first date is centered around fireflies and will instruct children on how to make a firefly hand puppet, while the second date will teach children how to make patriotic streamers ahead of Independence Day.

16th annual Blue Flame Cruisers Car and Motorcycle Show

The Blue Flame Cruisers Car and Motorcycle Club will hold its annual car show featuring antique, classic and special-interest vehicles, with an awards ceremony held toward the end of the afternoon for entrants. The nonprofit works to generate money for scholarships to benefit Bastrop Independent School District students interested in careers related to the automotive industry.

Bastrop’s Annual Big Bang Celebration

Hosted by the city of Bastrop and HEB, the evening will be filled with patriotic events, live music, snacks, sips and more—all leading to a fireworks display at dusk.
