Gregory Klaus has won the Republican nomination for Bastrop County judge, according to unofficial results for the March 3 primary election.
He led challenger Donald Loucks with approximately 63.8% of the vote, according to unofficial results.

Bastrop County voters spent March 3 at the polls to decide the next county judge as part of the primary election.
Early voting and absentee ballot totals were posted to the Bastrop County Elections Department website shortly before 8:30 p.m.
What we know
As of 7:27 a.m. March 4, incumbent Gregory Klaus led opponent Donald Loucks with about 63.8% of the vote, according to unofficial results.
There were 8,778 ballots cast countywide for the republican nominee for county judge, which represents approximately 14.1% of Bastrop County’s 62,294 registered voters, according to voting results.
Klaus is a lifelong Bastrop County resident with experience in county leadership and public service.
“I'm running again because I care about Bastrop County and the people who live here,” he previously told Community Impact. “As a lifelong resident, I believe there's still important work to do and I want to keep building on what we have already started.
Loucks is a former Bastrop County commissioner for Precinct 3 and a current member of the Bastrop County Emergency Response Team.
“I am running for Bastrop County Judge to use my leadership, experience and training to proactively guide our county to a successful future,” he said in a statement posted to Facebook.

Bastrop County operates under a majority vote system—meaning candidates must receive 50% plus one vote to win. If no candidate meets that threshold, a runoff between the top two candidates will be scheduled for May 26, according to the Bastrop County Elections Department.
The outlook
The winning Republican candidate will face Dock Jackson in November. Jackson was the only Democratic candidate to file for March primaries, according to the Texas Secretary of State website.
