Bastrop ISD is investing in student success by launching new classroom technology and constructing a dedicated police station to enhance campus safety and support.

$17.7M BISD police station underway

Construction is underway on Bastrop ISD’s new police station at the 1100 block of Lovers Lane, with completion expected by September, officials announced.

In a nutshell

Funded by the $321.5 million bond passed in 2023, the station will serve as a multipurpose facility, providing administrative and operational support for the district's police department.

About the project

A total of $17.7 million from the bond is allocated to enhance police operations, which also includes the addition of security cameras across district campuses.

Officials said this initiative is part of the district's broader effort to improve safety and efficiency.

What they’re saying

Bastrop ISD officials shared on social media that the new facility will strengthen the district, increase safety and improve operational efficiency.

"The future is looking bright, and we can't wait to see the impact this new facility will have on our community," officials said.

5G rollout set for 2 BISD schools

This fall, students at two Bastrop ISD middle schools will receive 5G-enabled laptops and digital learning tools through a new initiative designed to boost educational access and student engagement.

What you need to know

Through a partnership with Verizon Innovative Learning Schools and the nonprofit Digital Promise, Bastrop and Cedar Creek middle schools will be the first to receive technology and training to expand learning and leadership development opportunities for staff and students.

What it means

The partnership will allow BISD to create more engaging and effective learning experiences for students in the district and help transform the district's technology integration practices, said Chris Lairscey, BISD's director of digital learning, during an April 15 board meeting.

What they're saying

"With many of our curriculum and resources and state assessments moving to online, we've been working hard to build capacity and technology integration, and VILS just offers us a structured and supportive pathway to accelerate this work," said Jennifer Eberly, BISD's chief academic officer.
