Bastrop County families can learn about children's education opportunities and have a little fun at the inaugural Education Fair in downtown Bastrop on Jan. 25.

What’s happening

Hosted by the Lost Pines Learning Collective, in partnership with National School Choice Week, the fair will bring schools, co-ops and educational programs together under one roof to help families learn what options are available, with opportunities to enroll on-site if they wish, according to a news release.

The LPLC works to connect families, educators and therapeutic support professionals serving the Greater Bastrop area, according to the website.

“This event provides parents an opportunity to learn about their options, get answers to the questions they want to ask and find the help they need in making decisions about their children’s education best suiting their families’ unique circumstances,” LPLC founder Heather Young-Lira said in the release.

What to expect

In addition to resources, Young-Lira said games, activities and more will also be offered during the fair.

“We are planning event giveaways like prize baskets and credit toward the school or program of their choice as well,” Young-Lira said, adding that families should RSVP to be entered for a chance to win.

How we got here

After seeing informational fairs for various schools and educational programs over the years, Young-Lira said she saw a need to bring them together.

“As a busy mom myself, I thought it might be helpful to the community to get all of our options into one room on one date early in the season,” she said.

Notable quote

“If you’ve been even a little ‘edu-curious’ and want to learn more about the options we have around town, I’d love for you to come,” Young-Lira said. “Come for the info and stay for the games.”
