Ad Astra, Latin for "to the stars," is nestled about a mile from Hyperloop Plaza—home to several other Musk-led ventures.
According to the website, the Montessori-style school will focus heavily on science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM, programming split into two programs:
- Primary, for ages 3-6, with a capacity of 18 students
- Lower Elementary, for ages 6-9, with a capacity of 30 students
Montessori-style techniques used at the school will include:
- Individualized learning
- Activity-based curriculum
- Uninterrupted work periods
- Holistic development to enhance social, emotional and practical life skills
- Multiage learning groups
- Cross-cultural awareness
The cost
Tuition for the 2024-25 school year will be subsidized, per the website; however, pricing for the 2025-26 school year will be comparable to similar nearby facilities. Tuition covers the cost of instruction from 8 a.m.-3 p.m., in addition to afternoon programming from 3-6 p.m., snacks and enrichment activities.
What's next
The school is set to open in September, pending licensing from Texas Health and Human Services. Applications are free and should be submitted electronically through Sept. 1. Those who are accepted will be notified by Sept. 7 and will have seven days to accept.
Some context
Since 2021, Musk has continued to expand his Bastrop empire with The Boring Co. and SpaceX projects. On July 29, he announced hiring began for his upcoming X Safety Support Center located within Hyperloop Plaza. Job openings include representatives to staff the center, with a base salary between $50,000-$55,000.
