Smokey Mo’s BBQ is weeks away from serving up smoked brisket and more for Bastrop residents in the Burleson Crossing shopping center.

The details

The location—which will offer dine-in, takeout, delivery and catering—will mark the 22nd in Texas.

“Expanding into Bastrop is a meaningful move as we continue scaling with purpose,” Craig Haley, president of Smokey Mo’s BBQ, said in a statement. “This community is growing fast, especially with its emergence as a tech hub east of Austin, and it aligns perfectly with our model.”

Construction began in late July and is estimated to cost $650,000, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

“Our target for opening is late October, early November,” Haley said.

Zooming in

Haley—who noted that Smokey Mo’s BBQ is celebrating its 25th anniversary—listed several factors he believes make his restaurant special, including:
  • Smoking all meats in-house using post oak wood
  • Focusing on friendly service
  • Investing in the community
Notable quote

“We’re very interested in partnering with local high schools, the city and just being a part of the events all across town,” Haley previously told Community Impact. “Food is such an important part of holidays and gatherings. You know, graduations, weddings, football games—all of those things. So we’re a place that you can count on for all of the milestone events in your life.”
