Owners Randy and Jessica Walker began offering house-made food at Smithville’s newest eatery earlier this month.

In a nutshell

The Walkers make nearly everything in-house at Sweet Tea Cafe without seed oils—using only olive oil and tallow, depending on the dish.

“We have home cooking like grandma did,” Jessica Walker said. “We do everything from scratch, from our mayo to our breakfast sausage.”

What’s special about it?

Jessica Walker said she and Randy Walker share a passion for “real food at a real cost.”

“Growing up [in Smithville], I have always seen both extremes of the income scale,” she said. “We know this little town has a lot of people on a fixed income and we want them to be able to enjoy the dining out experience as much as the wealthy.”

For that reason, the Walkers offer $0.50 coffees, $5 breakfasts and $7 lunches.

On the menu

Breakfast meals at Sweet Tea Cafe range from traditional bacon, eggs and toast to chicken and waffles and blueberry-lemon French toast with goat cheese.

Lunch dishes include options such as smoked meatloaf, chicken-fried steak or chicken, brisket macaroni and cheese, fried green tomatoes and more.
