Greek enthusiasts can indulge in a taste of Southeastern Europe, and maybe grab a few trinkets, in downtown Bastrop after Rebecca and Theo Syrpis opened Coffee Greeks in late September.

The gist

The Greek, family-owned business opened inside the couple's boutique, Silver Creek Collections, which expanded into the spot next to Paw-Paw's Catfish House in April.

Some context

Coffee Greeks replaced the former coffee kiosk, The Haven, next door inside Merc on Main.

Rebecca Syrpis said they created Coffee Greeks to give residents authentic Greek food and drink options while browsing the shop.

What they offer

Coffee Greeks offers a curated selection of beverages, dishes and desserts, including:
  • Coffees like drip, breve and espresso
  • Teas, cacao and matchas
  • Greek frappes
  • Gluten-free pastries
  • Sweets like baklava and bougatsa—a traditional Greek custard pie
  • Savory dishes like pastichio—a pasta bake, and spanakopita—made from layers of phyllo dough filled with spinach and feta

What else?

The Syrpises also added an agora, or Greek market, inside the boutique with items from Greece, including:
  • Dish towels and pot holders
  • Candy
  • Olives
  • Cooking oils
  • Bags
  • Jewelry

Notable quote

"We love the comfort of a small town like Bastrop that has the proximity of a thriving metropolis like Austin," Theo Syrpis said.
