Some history

The 1,800-square-foot building has a rich history, said Heather Bloom, Bastrop County Historical Society collections manager.

The building, along with the one directly adjacent to it at 920 Main Street, was constructed in 1895 by local boot and shoemaker Alois Knittle Senior, along with his sons, Alois and Alfred Knittle.

The shoe store remained there until around 1964, when local couple Frank and Myrtle "Mimi" Denison opened a flower shop in one of the buildings. A fabric store replaced it in 1978, opened by Barabara Philips Bridges. Later, her son Ronald Howard "Moose" Bridges took over.
