Congressman Bill Flores, R-Waco, outlined some topics he would like to see addressed in Washington, D.C. if he is reelected today to serve a fourth term.

Texas’ 17th Congressional District representative spoke during the Pflugerville Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon today on Election Day next to a busy polling place.

Flores is facing Democrat William Matta and Libertarian Clark Patterson. The district includes all or part of 12 counties in Central Texas, including a section of Travis County.

Education reform, unemployment, national security, tax reform, poverty and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act were topics Flores touched upon during his speech.

He also said the new Fair Labor Standards Act overtime regulations, set to go into effect Dec. 1, have a chance to be overturned.

“I hate to say, ‘Sue your own government,’ but it may be the only way to protect yourself,” Flores said. “I think we’ll prevail.”

Flores listed four items could help “connect the people with Congress,” including:

·      Term limits on Congress

·      A new Balanced Budget Act

·      The REINS Act

·      Eliminating the current pension system and forcing government officials to have “401(k)s and Social Security, just like everybody else.”

“This is more than Congress, it’s Washington,” Flores said.
