Whether you like tricks or treats, there are plenty of spooky events to choose from in San Marcos and Kyle the weekend before Halloween.

Oct. 27
The Wild and Scenic Film Festival
The theme of the festival is “Celebrating Hill Country Rivers."
The event will showcase seven award-winning short films that highlight adventures in remote wilderness and a variety of pressing environmental issues. $12. 7:30– 9:30 p.m., doors open at 7 p.m. LBJ Teaching Theater at Texas State University, 700 Moore St., San Marcos

Farmer Fred's Harvest Fall Carnival
The San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department hosts the annual Farmer Fred's Harvest Fall Carnival, featuring games, prizes, candy, a haunted hayride, a children's costume contest and more. Free admission. 6-9 p.m. San Marcos Plaza Park, 210 N C M Allen Parkway, San Marcos. 512-393-8400

Downtown SMTX Trick or Treat
Businesses in downtown San Marcos will hand out candy the Saturday before Halloween. Participating businesses will have balloons out front and are primarily located down LBJ Drive between Martin Luther King Drive and University Drive with some additional businesses off Hopkins Street participating. Some participating businesses include San Antonio St. Cafe on the Square, The Root Cellar Cafe & Brewery and Sean Patrick's Irish Pub N' Texas Grub are a few. Downtown San Marcos. Premium Outlets Safety Fair
Families are invited for a day of safety education at San Marcos Premium Outlets. The event will feature safety tips, activities and exhibits as well as live music, a Halloween photo booth and free emergency “go bags” for the first 250 San Marcos resident guests. Center Street Trick-or-Treat
Join local businesses and organizations as they set up tents and tables at City Square Park for the first-ever Center Street Trick-or-Treat, hosted by the Parks and Recreation department. The event will feature trick-or-treating and a costume contest. Be sure to register for the costume contest by 1:45 p.m. Free. 1-4 p.m. City Square Park, 101 S. Burleson Road., Kyle. 512-262-3939
