Rob Bentley and James King met while playing together in a country band and were looking to collaborate on another project.
"Rob was into teaching music, and I knew about business," King said. "We thought, 'Hey, maybe we could teach people how to rock.'"
They started offering group guitar lessons at Gorzycki Middle School under the name Don't Stop Rockin' in fall 2010. Their program kept growing by word of mouth, and they moved to 8213 Brodie Lane in August 2012.
The school teaches private lessons for piano, voice, guitar, bass and drums as well as group guitar and voice lessons.
Despite the name, Don't Stop Rockin' teaches music in all genres.
"We love Taylor Swift," King said. "She has been a great inspiration [for] young girls [to] learn guitar."
What sets Don't Stop Rockin' apart from other music schools is its teaching philosophy and attention to detail, they said. Teachers learn what bands students like and work to foster enthusiasm and momentum from the first class onward.
The school offers a student-centric multimedia experience using current technology, according to the company.
Don't Stop Rockin' also hosts summer camps in small groups.
"We view [the business] more like being in a band," Bentley said. "Whether you are a 6-year-old coming to take piano lessons or a 16-year-old learning how to shred, once you walk in the door, you are in our band."
The teachers at Don't Stop Rockin' are classically trained musicians and experienced band members, including Jose Galeano, singer of the Grammy Award-winning band Grupo Fantasma.
"We want to foster the kind of environment where students can see him and know something like [winning a Grammy] is possible," Bentley said.
