The Leander Public Arts Commission is encouraging public input on an online survey that started Feb. 25 concerning the preference of art in the community.

The survey is the first step in the process to draft a master plan that would bring more public art to Leander. The master plan could lead to the creation of new venues or events in Leander, said Stephen Bosak, director of the Leander Parks and Recreation Department, though he did not try to predict any outcomes so early in the process.

"It's a clean canvas," Bosak said. "It would help bring public art to the community and ultimately asks if [residents] would be willing to support a bond measure for public art."

In the survey, participants rate possible locations for public art and how much they would like to see dance and theater, interactive art, musical concerts, and symphony performances in public spaces. They then decide what benefit events such as wine and food festivals, concert series, or educational and interactive programs to bring to the city.

The Public Arts Commission plans to discuss the survey results at an open meeting after the poll closes April 30. At that point, residents will be able to voice their ideas before the commission drafts a master plan to present to City Council. Bosak said the commission aims to present the plan in mid-2014.

Paper copies of the survey may be attained at the Leander Parks and Recreation building, Leander Public Library, City Hall or the Leander Chamber of Commerce office.
