1. Allen police chief shares update on city's automated license plate reader program
The Allen Police Department uses automated license plate readers, or ALPRs, as a tool to enhance public safety, according to Police Chief Steve Dye. The readers can support patrol operations and assist in criminal operations by identifying vehicles associated with outstanding warrants, criminal investigations, Amber Alerts and other law enforcement purposes.

2. Aveda closes Stonebriar Centre location in Frisco
Aveda offered health and beauty services and body care. It offered products for hair, skin and more. Aveda products will still be available online.

3. Avelo Airlines plans nonstop service to 5 destinations from McKinney National Airport
The airline will offer flights to Las Vegas and four cities in Florida: Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando and Tampa, according to a June 30 news release. Air service will begin Nov. 11 upon completion of a new commercial service terminal that's been under construction since 2025. Avelo Airlines signed on as the first commercial service provider in late 2025.

4. JP Morgan Chase to close a call center in Plano, lay off 244 employees
The closure was announced in a Worker Adjustment & Retraining Notification, or WARN, notice the company submitted to the Texas Workforce Commission on June 23. JP Morgan Chase media representative Greg Hassell said the closing call center is one of many at its Plano office, and will impact about 2% of its employees based in the city.

5. Cafe Brazil offers coffee, all-day breakfast at new McKinney eatery
The McKinney restaurant will offer the same menu as the company’s five other North Texas locations, including all-day breakfast items and a bottomless coffee bar.

6. Stars align in Plano: $3 billion NHL arena, entertainment district planned for Willow Bend
The National Hockey League team plans to move from Dallas to a new arena at The Shops at Willow Bend. Plano City Council approved a nonbinding letter of intent from Dallas Sports & Entertainment LP, the Stars’ parent company, on June 8, clearing the way for the move.
