A strong, bold aroma of coffee beans fills the air inside Global Peace Factory. The sounds of beans grinding, coffee pouring, lively chatter and jazz music rings through the shop. A barista artfully pours milk into a cup of latte to make it look like a leaf.

Bernard Nussbaumer opened the coffee shop in 2010.

Nussbaumer—who is originally from Switzerland—said he wanted a place that would serve gourmet coffee rather than the coffee being served at fast casual locations. Before opening the business he attended coffee school in Portland, Oregon.

“If you’re going to learn anything about coffee, Portland is the place to go,” Nussbaumer said.

He learned everything about the business, including how to make all types of coffee.

“In Portland, I saw the love and passion for coffee that I wanted to bring to the DFW area by opening Global Peace Factory,” Nussbaumer said.

Global Peace Factory serves gourmet coffee, meaning the coffee comes from quality beans that have been grown and processed, roasted, packaged and brewed with care to maintain high quality and freshness, Nussbaumer said.

The coffee beans are roasted by an Italian roasting company based in Seattle.

General Manager Krystal Herrington, who is also Nussbaumer’s sister-in-law, said the baristas receive extensive training on how to make gourmet coffee and latte art.

“We have a really great group of highly trained and highly skilled baristas who excel at coffee preparation and customer service and quality,” Herrington said. “We want to make sure [customers] are always served the highest quality coffee.”

The coffee house donates at least 2 percent of every dollar it makes toward charity. Some of the organizations include child abuse prevention centers, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Toys for Tots.

“For us, it’s important to spread around peace whether it’s to our customers or donating to charity,” Nussbaumer said. “We want to provide the best coffee and service while also providing the best help we can to others.”
