Steven Noskin, a business owner and Frisco ISD parent, is running for the Place 2 seat of the FISD board of trustees.

Noskin and his family have lived in Frisco for three years. He and his family moved from Dix Hills, New York, where he served as the president, vice president and trustee of a Long Island school district board for six years. During his time on the board the district passed a $95 million bond initiative.

"I always like to give back to my community, and I do have experience being on a school board to a school district with similarities to Frisco," Noskin said. "I get involved where I can, but I do have a passion to be a liaison between the community and the board of trustees because I know to communicate with people and let them know they have a voice. I'd like to be an ear for the community."

When he lived in New York, Noskin said he founded two nonprofit youth leagues, and he and his family have given more than $700,000 in charity in the past 14 years. In Frisco, he coaches his children's soccer and football teams. He is also part of local HOAs.

Noskin said his background as a business owner can also make him a vital part of the board.

As a business owner, Noskin said he has an understanding on how to evaluate and negotiate contracts and understands the construction process that would add a different perspective on the board. He also said he would be fiscally responsible with the taxpayer's money when making decisions.

"As a business owner I have an understanding of financial matters and know how to evaluate those things from that perspective," he said.  "For example, when I buy something for my company it's like spending my own money. So I look at it the same way as a board member because we're all tax payers, and I look at that as spending my money as well."

Noskin said he has three priorities that he would like to focus on if elected: fiscal responsibility, transparency and communication. Noskin said the district already does a great job with all these issues, but given his background he said he can help enhance them.

Noskin is running against Phil Ramirez and Anjali Shirvaikar.

Early voting begins April 25 and ends May 3. General election is May 7.
