Montgomery County Emergency Services District No. 10, which serves the Magnolia area, held a graduation ceremony April 29 as 12 full-time firefighters joined the department, according to Winkler Public Relations, which represents ESD 10.
Ten of the 12 new firefighters previously served in volunteer or part-time capacity with the department.
"The hiring of these 12 full-time firefighters is a significant step for our department. We are serving a growing population, so this class is important for emergency response services in our community," Fire Chief Jeff Hevey said in a statement.
ESD 10 transitioned to the direct provider of firefighting services for the Magnolia area Jan. 1, as the department previously contracted with the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department to provide services, according to previous reporting. The department is now known as the Magnolia Fire Department.
