Tomball Honky Tonk Festival a success for city

The Tomball Honky Tonk Music Festival—the first of four new events the City plans to debut this spring—drew nearly 1,500 attendees on March 24, according to Tomball's marketing director Mike Baxter. The estimation was based on a combination of food sales, vendor comments and general head counts throughout the day, he said.

"For a first time event we are very pleased," Baxter said. "I think that this event showed that residents of North Harris County and the surrounding area are looking for quality entertainment that is closer to home."

The crowd was composed of many young people and families, but a large portion of the guests were older—a mixture Baxter said he views as a positive.

Four bands played the event: Jeff Woolsey & the Dancehall Kings, Miss Leslie & the Juke-Jointers, Country Jim & the Country All-Stars and The Bama Band. K-Star Country radio broadcasted live from the event.

Cisco's Salsa Company was on site providing food and beverages, as were other popular local eateries, The Original Rib Tickler and The Magnolia Tree House of Tea. Tents were set up around the festival grounds to help people stay cool. A bounce house was also on site for kids.

Baxter said the turnout for the event bodes well for its return next year. He is already contemplating minor tweaks to make it even bigger.

"We were happy with the basic layout and presentation," he said. "Next year we may consider extending the hours into the early evening and adding to our retail vendors."

The next city sponsored event is Art Walk, Tomball! on April 21. The Rails & Tails Mudbug festival will be held May 5 and 6, and the Memorial Day Weekend Chili Challenge is set for May 26.
