Spring Cypress Road is receiving a major makeover from Harris County as crews work on expanding the current two lanes into four, as well as improving drainage mitigation.
The project runs from Telge Road to Hwy. 249 and is expected to be completed by late November 2013. Precinct 4 Commissioner Jack Cagle said the expansion will relieve heavy congestion in the area to improve mobility. Because two lanes are being added, bigger and better drainage is required. Therefore, a storm sewer system is being installed down the road's entire length and is a contributing factor to the project's cost of $18.5 million price tag, which is being paid for by the general mobility fund.
"We are very excited about Spring Cypress. It's a very important east-west road for us that will allow traffic to flow," Cagle said.
In the meantime, construction has tightened the traffic flow toward Hwy. 249. Cagle said the aggressive construction may be an inconvenience, but it will help crews complete the project quicker and have residents onto the expanded road on schedule.
