David and Andrea Ketterer believe their distinctive board and train program has made their Magnolia kennel a success. Their customers tend to agree, Andrea said, as 60 percent of new customers are referrals.
Circle K9 opened in February 2012 on a five-acre property where the Ketterers can offer boarding, private training lessons or a combination of both.
"What's unique about us is if you bring your dog for the board and train program, you can come back after even just a few days and see a difference [in the pet's obedience,]" Andrea said.
David uses a technique called "negative positive positive," Andrea said, in which after correcting the dog's behavior, he awards it two positives through treats and encouragement. The dog learns if it behaves correctly, it will receive two rewards.
