Tomball City Council approves $8.8M contract for new water plant

During its Nov. 18 meeting, Tomball City Council approved an $8.8 million contract with IECONI for the construction of the Baker Drive Water Plant as part of the city’s 2025-29 capital improvement plan.

The details

The new water plant is part of the city’s 2023 water master plan that outlined improvements to the city’s water distribution system that would serve current and future water demands, according to the agenda packet.

The water plant will be built where the existing water plant is on Baker Drive after it is demolished. The project has an expected completion of spring 2026, Project Manager Meagan Mageo said during the Nov. 18 meeting.

What we know

The elevated tank currently on-site will be demolished and the water tank will be housed underground, City Manager David Esquivel said.

The project was originally budgeted for $8.3 million, and city officials said they believe the costs of other CIP projects will balance out the budget. Mageo said the IECONI contract is $2.7 million cheaper than the original bid the city received prior to IECONI.
