Magnolia City Council approves parking lot project for Town Center district

Magnolia City Council voted Nov. 12 to approve a conditional use permit allowing the Magnolia 4B Community Development Corp. to develop public parking lots in the city’s Town Center zoning district.

Why it matters

The approval is the final phase of the parking lot project, which aims to expand parking options for small businesses in the downtown area, also known as The Stroll District, according to the agenda packet.

City Planner Dana Berry said the permit allows the 4B Corp. to move forward with final planning and construction.

“This will allow businesses that are limited by lot size to buy into the city’s parking program and meet our development requirements,” Berry said at the meeting.

The details

According to city documents, the 1.5-acre property will provide shared parking and may also be used for occasional market events supporting The Stroll.

The lots will operate under a program approved earlier this year that lets businesses contribute toward shared parking instead of meeting all on-site parking requirements, as previously reported.
