Tomball, Magnolia ISDs plan for in-person graduation ceremonies, summer school

Magnolia ISD plans to hold its graduation ceremony June 9, also at Woodforest Bank Stadium, according to a May 18 parents letter.

The district intends to hold a traditional ceremony for its seniors while also complying with guidelines.

“We have selected an outdoor venue that not only meets these requirements but also provides for as many guests to attend as social distancing guidelines allow,” the letter said.

MISD said in its letter prom would not be possible this year as it would not follow the state guidelines for social distancing.

Both districts have confirmed that summer school will be available through online platforms.

MISD Communications Director Denise Meyers confirmed in an email that summer school will operate online for high school credit and recovery credit. Students from pre-K to eighth grade will have access to learning plans published online once a week.

Summer school for TISD will be available through online platforms, said Allison Suarez, district director of communications and marketing, in an email.

Classes will be available from prekindergarten up to high school students.

As of May 26, neither district had updated information as to how the 2020-21 school year will look, as internal discussions are still taking place on how to keep students safe.
