A number of road projects are underway in The Woodlands area, funded by the Montgomery County road bond as well as other projects from the Texas Department of Transportation. This list is not comprehensive, and details are subject to change.
Upcoming projects
1. Research Forest Drive at Gosling Road turn lane extension
Project: The project will extend dual left-turn lanes from westbound Research Forest Drive to southbound Gosling Road. They will also be extended from southbound Gosling Road to eastbound Research Forest Drive.
Update: Work onto southbound Gosling was nearly complete, and utility relocation was upcoming for the other extensions as of March 11, officials said.
Timeline: Construction will begin late spring.
Cost: $25,500 (design)

2. Woodlands Parkway at Kuykendahl Road turn lane extension
Project: The project will add a left-turn lane and extend lane storage from northbound Kuykendahl Road to westbound Woodlands Parkway. It will also extend the right-turn lane from northbound Kuykendahl Road to eastbound Woodlands Parkway.
Update: The left-turn lane addition was complete, and the right-turn lane was being prepared for construction after utility relocation as of March 11, officials said.
Timeline: Construction will begin by late spring/early summer.
Cost: $88,240 (design), $149,110 (construction)

3. Rayford Road and Discovery Creek Boulevard traffic signal
Project: A traffic signal will be replaced at the intersection and will add left-turn lanes in both directions on Rayford Road.
Update: The design is almost complete, officials said on March 11.
Timeline: Construction is slated to begin mid-summer pending the delivery of traffic signal equipment.
Cost: $132,045 (design)

4. Grogan’s Mill Road at North Millbend Drive intersection upgrade
Project: The project will redesign traffic signal and intersection layout, replace pavement and restripe the intersection, Precinct 3 officials said.
Update: The project was in the engineering design phase early this year.
Timeline: Construction is estimated to start in the summer.
Cost: $52,500 (design)

Ongoing projects
5. Hwy. 242 widening
Project: TxDOT is using the existing right of way on Hwy. 242 between FM 1488 and I-45 to widen lanes and restripe the intersections.
Update: As of the most recent information released by TxDOT March 11, the project being carried out by Posillico Civil Inc. was 79% complete.
Timeline: Oct. 23, 2023-fourth quarter of 2026
Cost: $29.11 million

6. Woodlands Parkway asphalt shoulder replacement
Project: The project will replace the asphalt shoulders between FM 2978 and I-45.
Update: Construction on the project has started, officials said.
Timeline: The milling process has started on sections west of Lake Woodlands Drive to FM 2978.
Cost: $1.33 million

7. Lake Woodlands Drive asphalt shoulder replacement
Project: The project will replace the asphalt shoulders between Northshore Park and Kuykendahl Road and will remove curbed radius locations and rounded bullnoses along Lake Woodlands Drive.
Update: Construction and striping was expected to be completed soon as of March, officials said.
