A number of road projects are underway in The Woodlands area, some of which are funded by the Montgomery County road bond as well as ongoing projects from the Texas Department of Transportation. This list is not comprehensive, and details are subject to change.
Upcoming projects
1. David Memorial Drive extension
Project: A project to extend David Memorial Drive to Hwy. 242 began in September 2023 under the terms of an interlocal agreement between the city of Shenandoah and Montgomery County.
Update: The first phase of work is completed to the Conroe city limits. Originally slated to be paid for by Conroe, the final portion of the project will now be funded by the Montgomery County road bond approved by voters in 2025. Engineer John Bleyl said as of July 15 negotiations to finalize the right of way were still ongoing.
Project: The project will change the center lane on southbound Rayford Road under the Grand Parkway from a thru lane to a shared through/left-turn lane, among other improvements. It will also construct a dedicated right-turn lane onto Lockeridge Farms Drive and construct a dedicated right-turn lane onto Birnham Woods Drive southbound and onto Benders Landing Boulevard as well as other frontage road improvements.
Update: Design is scheduled to be completed by the fall, and the project will go out for bids in 2027. The county will be reimbursed for its construction costs by the Texas Department of Transportation, and it will be reimbursed for engineering costs through a pass-thru toll agreement.
3. Rayford Road and Discovery Creek Boulevard traffic signal
Project: A traffic signal will be placed at the intersection and will add left-turn lanes in both directions on Rayford Road.
Update: Pavement, striping and signalization is scheduled to be completed this summer.
Project: The project will redesign the traffic signal and intersection layout, upgrade traffic signal facilities, replace pavement in the intersection and restripe the intersection.
Update: Construction began with installation of temporary traffic signal equipment and removal of existing signal equipment. Pavement work should be completed before the school year starts, and new signal equipment and traffic technology will be complete in early fall, according to a July update from Precinct 3.
Project: TxDOT is using the existing right of way on Hwy. 242 between FM 1488 and I-45 to widen lanes and restripe the intersections.
Update: As of the most recent update released by TxDOT July 15, the project being carried out by Posillico Civil Inc. was 86% complete.
6. Drainage improvements on I-45 feeder
Project: The project will construct drainage improvements on the northbound and southbound frontage road of I-45 from Shenandoah Park Drive to Hwy. 242.
Update: Work on the project is 25% complete, according to a July 15 update from TxDOT. The project is being completed by James Construction Group.
