The 30-plus-year-old bicycle and pedestrian bridge over Grogan's Mill Road at Sawmill Road could soon receive a major facelift. The Woodlands Township board of directors tonight will consider a color and graphic scheme for the bridge's renovation at its 6 p.m. meeting.
The township budgeted $50,000 in the Capital Projects fund for the current fiscal year for the renovations of the aging bridge. But before the township could vote on the plan, township staff had to ensure that The Woodlands, in fact, owned the bridge.
According to township documents related to the project, the staff reviewed minutes from a Woodlands Community Association meeting from 1974, which "indicated that WCA accepted the Grogan's Mill pedestrian bridge for ownership."
Despite their being no legal documents placing the bridge in township's possession, the documents state, the township does own the bridge "by way of assignment."
