UH announces MBA plan for LSC University Center

The University of Houston announced Feb. 27 it would bring its acclaimed Bauer College of Business to Lone Star College University Center in the fall. The program will be the only one at LSC University Center to offer an executive MBA program.

Latha Ramchand, dean and professor of finance at the Bauer College said many of the program's classes would be geared toward energy and oil and gas.

"In many ways I think the story of this century is going to be the story of energy," she said. "That story is being written in a significant way in The Woodlands."

Ramchand said the move to The Woodlands campus was specifically in response to the growing number of energy-related jobs in The Woodlands area, including new campuses for ExxonMobil and Anadarko. Among the four masters programs to be offered at the Bauer College will be global energy management.

"You would not believe the number of requests we have for this program in the dean's office," she said.

Other degree programs will include supply chain management and infrastructure system.

Ramchand said many of the instructors for the executive MBA program UH will bring to the LSC-University Center campus will be former energy and oil and gas executives themselves.

"These are the best of the best who teach in this particular program," she said.

The Bauer College of Business was ranked sixth among the 10 most popular business schools in the country by U.S. News and World Report in 2013. The college has 5,700 students enrolled in its programs.
