Chairman Bruce Tough and Vice Chairwoman Peggy Hausman are running unopposed, but The Woodlands Township Board of Directors will see at least one new representative following the upcoming Nov. 5 election.
With Position 5 incumbent Nelda Blair opting not to run for re-election, first-time candidates John McMullan and Jason Rocha will vie for her position. Rocha, 27, has lived in the area much of his life and will graduate in December from the University of Houston with a double degree in economics and political science.
"I feel like this is the best time to get into politics, especially in a community like The Woodlands, where the population is growing so quickly," Rocha said.
The youngest candidate to ever run for the board, Rocha said he believes he can help bridge the demographic gap between the older and younger residents of the community. Rocha said he hopes to preserve the quality of life and services for future generations in The Woodlands.
